Our Story

Bushskies Aviation is a Namibian owned company offering a variety of aviation services such as aerial surveys of large game reserves and national parks, farm land, mining areas, engineering projects and municipal areas, fly in safaris and other charter services. We provide our clients with high resolution georeferenced images of the survey area as well as rendered orthomosaic, DEM, DTM, contour map and 3d modelling data.

Meet the Team

Dr Chris Brown

is the CEO of Namibian Chamber of Environment (NCE), an umbrella support organisation with a membership of some 45 environmental NGO’s. He is an ecologist and environmental scientist with over thirty-five years practical experience in wildlife and environmental management. Previously he was Head of the Directorate of Environmental Affairs (DEA) in the Ministry of Environment and Tourism and the Executive Director of the Namibia Nature Foundation for 12 years.

Jaco van der Westhuizen

is one of the founding members of the company and serves as the Accountable Manager. His expertise and leadership have been instrumental in steering the company through challenges and towards remarkable milestones. Under his guidance, the company has grown from a humble startup to a formidable force, delivering results in various fields.

Johanco Steenkamp

is responsible for Flight Operations, Ground Operations, and Flight Crew Training for the company as well as a commercial Pilot with approximately 900 hours of experience on various aircraft types.

Ruan de Wet

Ruan has 10 years’ experience in building, programming, flying and using fixed wing UAVs for the purpose of capturing data via images and using them for mapping areas in his profession as a surveyor. He has a driven passion in this kind of technology whether UAV or Manned Aerial Vehicle and believes it can be used for good purposes such as land management, planning, maintenance, inspections and making life easier in the long term. Ruan studied Bachelor of Surveying Science and Geomatics at Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST).

Xander Schoeman

is the Quality Assurance & Aviation Safety Manager of the company as well as a commercial Pilot with more than 3000 hours of diverse aviation experience on various types of aircraft.

Jan Styger

freelance commercial pilot, with approximately 1500 hours of experience.

Melissa
Schoeman

has extensive knowledge and experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing technology. Having graduated her Bsc in Geo-Information Technology Degree at the University of Stellenbosch, she further obtained her Honors and Masters of Spatial Science at Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST).
